FINANCIAL INVESTMENTS IN WASTE-FREE AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTION TECHNOLOGIES: US EXPERIENCE

Abstract

The article is devoted to the actual problem of forms of financing technologies of waste-free production in the agricultural sector of the economy. The meaning of the concept of "zero-waste production" is revealed as responsible production, consumption, reuse and recycling of products, packaging and materials based on the preservation of all resources. Reasonable advantages of zero-waste agriculture: optimization of the production of ecological food products; reduction of water consumption; ensuring energy security; reducing the impact on climate change; reducing the use of pesticides. Three key principles have been identified for the transition to a zero-waste economy: avoid waste, do not remove products and materials from use, restore natural systems. The experience of American farms regarding the use of zero-waste agricultural production technologies is summarized: the McEnroe farm in the north of the state of New York widely uses composting not only to process its waste and by-products, but also established relationships with transporters and enterprises, ensuring the rhythm of work. Describes the TRUE Zero Waste Certification Program, which helps organizations measure their progress toward zero waste goals. Shown as an example of a zero-waste certified agricultural enterprise is the company "Taylor Farms", which achieved a waste recycling level of 94% and received the TRUE Platinum certificate. Summarizes America's farm education on zero-waste agricultural technologies: Describes the TRUE zero-waste certification program, which helps organizations measure their progress toward zero-waste goals. Presented programs of public investment in financing zero-waste agriculture from the USDA, which is engaged in research, consultation and training to reduce food loss and food waste. Notable programs from the National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) and the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) address the effects of climate change, ensure food security and nutrition, strengthen the rural economy, and ensure racial equity and justice.
