CASE METHOD IN THE DIGITAL EDUCATIONAL ENVIRONMENT: CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES

Abstract

Today, active learning methods are widely used in education, primarily to encourage students to think actively and do practical work in learning. Such methods include business games, simulation exercises, etc. One of these methods of activating learning is the case method. The research examines the impact of the case method on the educational process. In the process, such general scientific methods were used as a descriptive method to describe the stages of applying the case method in the educational process, a modeling method to build a structural model of a digital case, as well as an analysis and synthesis method to identify the difficulties of using the case method in the educational process and recommendations for overcoming them. The study results showed that a distinctive feature of the case method is creating a problem situation based on real-life facts. It demonstrates the theory from the point of view of actual events and allows students to become interested in learning the subject. The author has analyzed the case method and made its classification based on this analysis. To better understand the use of the case method in the educational process, the author presents a practical example of its use in the classroom. It is emphasized that modern information platforms are necessary to implement the case method effectively in the digital educational environment. The study will consider such platforms as Google Classroom, Kahoot, Padlet, and Moodle. The author notes that the case method is popular for disciplines such as mathematics and computer science. Online platforms containing educational materials in mathematics and computer science were highlighted: GeoGebra, Matific, Khan Academy. It was found that these platforms have tremendous potential both in classroom and extracurricular educational activities. The study has compiled the structure of a digital case in computer science and mathematics, and the impact of using the case method on students in the educational process. Based on the study's results, the author has identified the main difficulties teachers face when using the case method and suggested ways to overcome them.
