THE PHENOMENON OF FOSSILISATION IN LEARNING ENGLISH AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE AND ITS CORRECTION WITH POSTCASTING TECHNOLOGY

Fossilization is the most common speech defect of students with English as a Foreign Language, and at the same time it is one of the most difficult for the correction. The purpose of the paper is to highlight the factors that cause fossilization and substantiate of the effectiveness of podcasting technology as a way of correcting phonetic competence. The scientific novelty consists in highlighting the functional features of podcasts in the correction of fossilization. The fossilization origin lies in the inevitability of a deep and lasting influence of the native language on the phonetic mastering a foreign language. It is noted that the phonetic competence gets extra importance in the Aviation English, where the phonetics ensures the correct understanding of commands. The productivity of the podcasting technology for EFL learning is substantiated. Listening authentic podcasts followed by a discussion of their content using a dialogue method and the teacher’s mentorship ensures mutual phonetic correction. In addition, the psychological effect of motivation on improving speech is achieved in the dialogue. Iit is suggested to involve elements of edutainment to create an emotional uplift. Podcasts listening provides an orthoepic standard, and thus opens up opportunities for listeners to reflect on their own pronunciation. Dialoguebility will prepare future aviation specialists for professional communication with English speakers. The emergence of artificial intelligence makes significant adjustments to the capabilities of podcasting learning technology. The latest modifications of artificial intelligence reveal wide possibilities for creating not only audio, but also more tools of podcast, which supplement information thru the features belonging these tools. Currently, ChatGPT-4 is one of the leading type of artificial intelligence for the creation of podcasts for self-testing of phonetic competence, voiceover of texts for physically challenged person еtс. In general, the podcast tracking technology for learning English as a Foreign Language gives ample opportunities for forming an individual learning trajectory, as currently required by the principle of student-centeredness. Conclusion. Тurning to the podcasting technology in the correction of fossilization in Ukrainian realities has great prospects in the student-centered education.
