TRAUMA-FOCUSED PSYCHOTHERAPHY: FROM STABILIZATION TO HEALING

Abstract

The article is devoted to the theoretical study of trauma-focused psychotherapy as an effective method of overcoming the consequences of traumatic events. The purpose of the article is a theoretical analysis of trauma-focused approaches in the provision of psychotherapeutic care and the search for ways to implement them in the conditions of the ongoing war in Ukraine. The study identifies the main stages, principles and processes that forms the basis of trauma-focused psychotherapy. The features of scientific and evidence-based approaches to working with PTSD (prolonged exposure, written exposure therapy, cognitive-behavioral psychotherapy, EMDR therapy) are analyzed, and their advantages and disadvantages in working with the consequences of combat psychological trauma in the modern Ukrainian context are substantiated. The importance of adapting and applying trauma-focused psychotherapy techniques in the case of a pronounced combat stress response as a predictor of PTSD in military personnel has been determined. The difficulties that may arise in the process of psychotherapy and the possibilities of overcoming them, as well as the challenges of its implementation in Ukrainian realities, are emphasized.
