Abstract

The development of digital technologies has contributed to the emergence of innovative approaches to medical care, the emergence of a new direction, commonly known as telemedicine. Our study presents an analysis of the experience of providing counseling services to patients with mental health disorders in telemedicine, ie telepsychiatry. The aim of the study was to evaluate the effectiveness of counseling services for patients with mental health disorders in telemedicine. Anonymously, in compliance with the requirements of bioethics and the Law on Psychiatric Care in Ukraine, 432 patients who underwent treatment and subsequent 6-month follow-up in telepsychiatry in 2000 were studied, compared with a comparable control group of 315 patients in general psychiatric inpatient care. In the conditions of telepsychiatry in the treatment cognitive-behavioral therapy was used in combination with symptomatic psychopharmacotherapy depending on the nosology and type of disease. Treatment outcomes were assessed using the Adapted Integrated Medical Outcomes Scale (IMOS). Patients' attitudes toward remote physician communication and telemedicine outcomes were analyzed according to the Adapted Integrated Medical Patient Satisfaction Scale (IMPSS). There was also a psychodiagnostic study of the main study group according to the method of "Well-being, Activity, Mood" and the method "WHO Short Questionnaire to assess quality of life" at the first remote visit to a psychiatrist and 6 months after treatment. It has been proven that counseling for patients with mental health disorders in telemedicine is not inferior to counseling for patients in normal outpatient settings, as evidenced by both the results of treatment and positive feedback from patients, improving their quality of life.
