The main trends of innovation systems in South Korea, Japan, and Singapore are analyzed. Weaknesses and strengths of innovative economies and prospects for their sustainable development are revealed. The connection between the global competitiveness of countries and the innovative economy is proven. It is shown that part of the experience of successful countries can be applied to transform the economy of Ukraine in innovative development. There are many approaches and classifications in scientific circles. For example, one of the simplest ways to classify an innovation is based on the depth of change it brings. And, innovations are divided into radical "breakthrough" and auxiliary "additional". Breakthrough innovations include innovations that fundamentally change any process or thanks to which a fundamentally new product is created. Auxiliary innovations are aimed at improving existing technologies. Most scientists confirm that innovation and new technologies are the driving force of economic development. Therefore, the level of development of such elements of the innovation sphere as science in general, science-intensive industries, innovative activity, technology transfer has a huge influence. Among the innovative states for a long period of time, the majority of experts recognized the USA and the EU countries in the first place. For a long time, they were recognized as world leaders in this area. Changes in the innovative development of states gradually took place. The leading role is increasingly played by the states representing the Asian region, which reflect the annual rankings.
