Abstract

The purpose of the article is to study the features of the formation of a sustainable development management system for banking institutions and to assess the effectiveness of the management process in banking activities. The relevance of building an effective sustainable development management system for a bank is determined, aimed at implementing sustainable development goals in the activities of a banking institution. The main provisions on which the policy of implementing sustainable development principles in the activities of banking institutions is based are highlighted (requirements of the regulatory environment and international standards, changing the structure of the asset portfolio, interaction with stakeholders, digital transformation, corporate social responsibility). The essence and components of the subsystems of strategic and operational sustainable development management of a bank are considered. The main principles of the strategic management subsystem for sustainable development are determined (integration of ESG factors into the business model, balance of economic efficiency and social and environmental responsibility, compliance with international standards, long-term perspective), functional components of the strategic management subsystem (formation of a sustainable development strategy, corporate sustainable development management, environmental and social responsibility management, sustainable development risk management and use of sustainable development financial instruments) and features of control and monitoring of strategic management policy are determined. The functional components of the operational management subsystem for sustainable development are characterized. The essence of control and monitoring of management policy in terms of operational decisions is revealed. Approaches that are appropriate to use when assessing the sustainable development of a bank are determined. Tools for solving problems that arise in the process of implementing the principles of sustainable development of a bank are highlighted.
