THE RELIGIOUS FRONT: THE ACTIVITIES OF THE OCU AS A RESPONSE TO RUSSIAN ARMED AGGRESSION (2014–2026)

The article analyzes the transformation of the socio-political and social activities of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU) in the context of prolonged Russian armed aggression. It explores the role of the OCU as an active subject of national resistance that transcends traditional religious practice. It is determined that obtaining the Tomos of Autocephaly was not merely a religious event but a strategic factor in ensuring Ukraine’s ideological security and countering the concepts of the «Russian World» (Russkiy Mir). Particular attention is paid to the activities of the NGO «Eleos-Ukraine» as a leading synodal institution implementing the concept of «diaconia in action.» The article highlights the organization’s key projects: the establishment of the St. Olga network of shelters, assistance to survivors of conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV) within the «Next to You» project, as well as evacuation missions and humanitarian logistics. The study examines the evolution of the institution of military and medical chaplaincy, the role of the clergy in supporting the moral and psychological state of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and participation in commemorative practices (specifically, the creation of the «Wall of Remembrance» memorial). It is proved that the OCU has integrated into the national security system as an essential tool for social cohesion and humanitarian support. The article concludes that the combination of a spiritual mission with professional social work and a patriotic stance has allowed the OCU to become one of the most trusted social institutions in modern Ukraine
