“PLACES OF MEMORY” IN VASYL MAKHNO’S COLLECTION “HORN OF PLENTY”

The article is devoted to the conceptualization of the concepts of “place of memory” and “spatial turn” and their implementation in Vasyl Makhno’s collection of essays “Horn of Plenty”. The interest in these concepts is due to the fact that in the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries there was an increased interest in the model of memory due to the rethinking and shifting of the boundaries of the past, present, and future in human consciousness, which led to a crisis of temporal concepts. The purpose of the article is to establish the relationship between literature and memory, to analyze the functional and stylistic features of topos in the essay genre. The article represents various trends and directions of literary and critical comprehension of these concepts. First of all, we are talking about the scientific positions of O. Veshchikova, O. Polishchuk, S. Pidopryhora, and H. Kosareva. The central issueraised in the article is the realization of the concept of “place of memory” in the context of the artistic world of the work and the relationship between space, reflection, and “place of memory”. It is known that the concepts of “memory”, “time”, and “space” have repeatedly transformed traditional notions of reflection and chronotope. Scientific novelty. For the first time, it is proved that there has been a re-emphasis of categories from “general” and “collective” to “personal” and “individual”. Conclusions. Thus, the “places of memory” in Vasyl Makhno’s essays appear sacralized, full of details, fragments, and memories of the artist that reconstruct the author’s overall picture of the world. The author recreates his own memories not only by filling the space with the past, present, and projection of the future, but also through intertextual motifs that create the effect of his own “involvement” for the recipient through the possibility of bringing his own experience into the artistic world of the text. The theoretical foundations of the concepts of “places of memory” and “spatial turn” are analyzed on the basis of the texts in “Horn of Plenty”. Among the texts of the collection, the essays “Horn of Plenty”, “Vis-a-vis. Rynek Główny”, “Louis Armstrong”, etc.
