The article is devoted to the consideration of the main features of the Bernese dialect, its social and territorial variants, certain sociophonetic features. An analogy is made with other Swiss dialects. The aim of the article is to establish the specifics of phonetic-phonological and grammatical features of the dialect of Bern, to determine its social and territorial variants. The aim is to solve the following problems: 1) To consider and describe the main features of the Bernese dialect and to establish its differences from other Swiss dialects. 2) Consider and describe the problems of social differentiation of the Bernese dialect. 3) To establish the features of territorial variants of the Berne dialect and to determine its influence on the dialects of neighboring regions. Scientific novelty. The vocabulary of the Bernese dialect in general does not differ from the vocabulary of other Swiss dialects. The vocabulary of Swiss dialects is characterized by vivid and numerous features of the German literary language. Here, first of all, a large layer of Swiss-labeled heteronyms stands out, which are lexical and semantic analogues of the corresponding words of the German version of the literary language proper. Conclusions. After completing the tasks, we were able to find out that, acting as a means of communication in several German-speaking countries, the German language actually functions in the form of correlated national versions of the macrosystem as a whole. In the field of social communicative functions, the German-Swiss use the German literary language in a special national version and mainly its written form. Oral communication is carried out in local dialects.
