ROAD CONDITION IN UKRAINE — FACTOR OF NEGATIVE IMPACT ON CARRIERS’ ACTIVITIES

Abstract

The article examines the state of domestic automobile roads in Ukraine, which is a factor in influencing the development of the trucking sector. It has been proved that the performance of freight forwarders depends on the functioning of various sectors of the economy that are customers of the services of transport companies, and the sustainable development of the freight forwarding sector ensures a high quality transport infrastructure, therefore the unsatisfactory condition of roads in Ukraine is a problem that inhibits economic growth. A number of reasons for this state of the road sector were identified: low quality of work performed on the reconstruction and construction of roads, inadequate control of state authorities, local self-government and the public; the absence of any sanctions for poorly performed repair or reconstruction of roads; the presence of corruption schemes in the sector of road construction and corrupt actions of officials; ineffective law enforcement control over the use of budget funds and trust funds. The directions of systemic reforms of the road industry that began in 2018 in Ukraine are highlighted. The experience of European countries (Czech Republic and Germany) in the sector of construction and reconstruction of roads, which must be studied and adapted, is presented. It is shown that the quality of roads has a direct impact on the number of traffic accidents in Ukraine.
