STUDY OF THE COMPETITIVENESS OF UKRAINIAN MEAT AND MEAT PRODUCTS IN THE NATIONAL AND GLOBAL MARKETS

The scientific article has proved the importance of studying the competitiveness of Ukrainian meat and meat products in the national and world markets. The dynamics of development and competition in the world market of meat and meat products have been disclosed. Also, the research has touched upon the dynamics by separate countries’ groups, which are divided by the level of income and development (countries with a high level of income; countries with incomes above average; countries with income below middle; low-income countries; low-income and food-deficit countries; countries importing only food; the least developed countries). The main trends and problems of the development of the world market of meat and meat products in 2012-2021, as well as the place of Ukraine in the world market of meat and meat products, have been determined. In addition, the problems of ensuring competition in the world market of meat and meat products have been identified. A comparison of development and competition in the world market of Ukraine and ten leading countries producing meat and meat products (Argentina, Australia, Brazil, India, Italy, China, Netherlands, Germany, Poland, and the USA) has been conducted. The export, import, and foreign trade balance of meat and meat products in Ukraine has been studied. It enabled us to draw additional conclusions about the competitiveness of Ukrainian meat and meat products in the national and global sales markets. The main trends hindering the increase in the presence of Ukrainian meat products in the national and global sales markets have been identified. They include the production of meat and meat products in the country, lagging behind the countries belonging to the same group as Ukraine regarding development and income. A steady trend of decreasing production of meat and meat products in the country per capita has been determined. The positive dynamics of the foreign trade balance are achieved mainly at the expense of poultry meat (chicken). The main problems that prevent the increase of the presence of Ukrainian meat products in the national and global sales markets have been stated. They include: for global markets - insufficient financial capabilities of producers, insufficient attention to the issue of the introduction of digital technologies and innovations, poor adaptation to economic challenges; for the national market – solvent consumer demand, ineffective cost management, and poor adaptation to economic difficulties.
