LEXICAL-SEMANTIC FIELD “PUBLIC MANAGEMENT AND ADMINISTRATION” IN THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE

The article is devoted to the study of the lexical-semantic field “Public management and administration” in the English language. The aim of the research is to determine the composition, structural organization, and semantic characteristics of lexical units that form this lexical-semantic field, as well as to identify its core and peripheral zones. The research material consists of English terms selected from modern lexicographic sources, particularly dictionaries of public administration. In the course of the study, the descriptive method, the method of semantic and componential analysis, and the method of field modeling were employed. As a result of the selection process, a corpus of lexical units denoting institutions of public authority, managerial processes, administrative procedures, and financial and economic mechanisms of the functioning of the public sector was formed. The article establishes the thematic organization of the analyzed vocabulary and identifies several main semantic groups: terms denoting subjects and institutions of public administration, managerial processes and procedures, financial and economic mechanisms of the functioning of the public sector, as well as the results of public authority activities. The conducted etymological analysis demonstrates the predominantly Latin and French origin of the studied vocabulary, reflecting the historical development of the European administrative and legal tradition. The field analysis allowed for determining the structure of the lexical-semantic field “Public management and administration,” which includes the core, the near-core zone, and the periphery. The core of the field consists of the basic concepts of public governance (public administration, public management, governance, public sector), while the near-core zone is represented by terms specifying the organizational and procedural aspects of public authority activities. The periphery is formed by specialized concepts related to the economic, financial, and social aspects of the functioning of the public sector.
