Abstract

Formulation of the problem. The processes of globalization and increasing migration in the modern world lead to an increase in the number of young people studying in other countries, so the problem of adaptation of young people to live and study abroad is a relevant topic for research.

Analysis of recent research and publications. Living and studying in another country has both positive aspects (expanding worldview, the opportunity to find an interesting and well-paid job, learning another language and culture) and negative aspects, including nostalgia and reduced contact with friends and relatives, lack of opportunity to learn native language, which causes the development of emotional and behavioral problems in foreign students. Racial affiliation and social status of students are factors that affect academic performance and attendance. There is a positive correlation between the proactivity of the individual and the self-efficacy of its adaptation.

Formulating the purpose of the article. The aim of the research is to study the state of the emotional sphere of foreign students studying in Ukraine, to determine the factors influencing the process of their adaptation, and to develop recommendations for psychological correction and psychoprophylaxis.

Presenting main material. The study involved 342 English-speaking thirdyear students of higher educational institutions in Kyiv, who came to study in Ukraine from different countries of the Middle East, South America and Africa. They used observations, psychotherapeutic conversation, motivational semi-structured interview, HADS questionnaire, rapid test for the level of proficiency in Ukrainian or Russian. A comprehensive method of psychological correction and psychoprophylaxis for foreign students was developed, aimed at normalizing their emotional sphere, which included a psycho-educational program, psycho-correctional measures and a stage of psycho-prophylaxis. The implementation of this technique contributed to the qualitative adaptation of foreign students, faster learning of the 25 language of the host country, employment and solving financial problems, overcoming negative emotional states.

Conclusions and prospects for further research. We have developed a comprehensive method of psychocorrection and psychoprophylaxis of emotional disorders of foreign students involves the introduction of a psychoeducational program, timely psychodiagnostics of emotional disorders and other adaptation problems, as well as the implementation of psychocorrectional measures and principles of psychoprophylaxis, including rational and cognitive-behavioral therapy. Psychoprophylactic work with foreign students is based on the implementation of a psycho-educational program, as well as on preparing students for life in another country, monitoring the process of adaptation and identifying risk groups. Organizational work to improve the system of training and support of students in the process of their study in another country should be aimed at improving the institution of curation, improving language teaching with emphasis on communication skills in the country of study, joint study and dormitory living with students, providing affordable, timely and quality psychological and medical care.
