Abstract. The purpose of the work. Scientific substantiation of the essence and content of public management mechanisms and tools for increasing the level of economic security of the region. Methodology. The methodological basis consists of the works of scientists in the field of economic security, regional economy, as well as the provisions of classical and neoclassical economic theory, complexity theory, system-self-organization theory, evolutionary and institutional theories. In the research process, various methods of scientific knowledge were used: dialectical, systemic, indicative and synergistic approaches, analysis and synthesis, identification of cause and effect relationships. Scientific novelty. The system-self-organizational approach has been improved as a methodological basis for the formation of public management mechanisms to ensure the economic security of the region, which allows the socio-economic system of the region to develop qualitatively and safely due to the existing internal features of the economic system and the way of interaction with the external environment, and takes into account the effect of two types of mechanisms: self organizational (manifests as a certain effect of local interactions between system elements, without any control teams) and organizational (qualitative changes are the result of the influence of the environment on the control center). Conclusions. The system-self-organizational approach acts as a methodological basis for the formation of the mechanism for ensuring the economic security of the region, which allows the socio-economic system of the region to develop qualitatively and safely due to the existing internal features of the economic system and the way of interaction with the external environment.
